   Description of Services

Nancy McWilliams, Ph.D. teaches at the Graduate School of Applied & Professional Psychology at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.  Her outreach work largely involves speaking with the larger public about the value of psychoanalytic understanding which includes teaching in the United States and elsewhere about the importance of understanding different kinds of personality organization.  Dr. McWilliams has taught in most major cities of New Zealand and Australia and in Russia, Sweden, Greece, Mexico, Canada, and Turkey.  In addition to speaking within psychoanalytic societies, past groups for which she has provided training sometimes pro bono have included: The Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Southeast Association for Pastoral Counselors, the Air Force, the Latin American College Counseling Centers, social work agencies, school-based youth services, medical schools and medical centers, community service clubs, elementary and secondary school teachers, and churches.  Dr. McWilliams is author of Psychoanalytic Diagnosis: Understanding Personality Structure in the Clinical Process (1994), Psychoanalytic Case Formulation (1999), and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy: A Practitioner's Guide (2004), all with Guilford Press, and is Associate Editor of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (2006), as well as numerous articles and book chapters.
