Description of Services |
I teach and supervise psychiatric residents and fellows at
the
Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. My
focus as a therapist and faculty member is on applying psychodynamic
psychotherapy to Borderline Personality Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress,
and Depression, as well as a broad array of relationship and work/school
difficulties. As a member of the Trauma Psychiatry Service, I also treat
children and adults who have been victims or witnesses of major trauma,
including war, crime, car accidents, etc.. I have spoken to many media
outlets and groups re the post traumatic effects of 9/11. I have also
served as an expert witness on many cases where PTSD is involved. I am the
associate director of a service that provides mental health services for
all physicians in training at the medical school. I have spoken to
community groups and teach undergraduates in the psychology department
about psychoanalytic theory, PTSD, TV violence, and Personality Disorders.
Finally, I have facilitated process groups with inpatient psychiatric
nurses and social workers who feel pressured by their bosses and have
strong countertransference reactions to their patients. All of the above
has been done within an explicit or implicit psychodynamic framework. My
goal now is to write a popular book aimed at the public that introduces
and explores the possibilities of psychodynamic therapy for bettering
relationships, work and school achievement, friendships, and developing a
resilient and optimistic approach to life, etc. |
