The New York Psychoanalytic Institute established the
Treatment Center, one of the oldest psychoanalytic treatment and
referral services in the United States, in 1948, with two goals: first,
to offer psychoanalytic treatment at sliding scale fees to people who
are otherwise unable to afford such intensive treatment; and second, to
refer patients who can benefit from psychoanalysis to candidates who are
seeking advanced training in the practice of psychoanalysis. Each
candidate in analytic training is an experienced professional who has
already completed training in psychiatry, doctoral psychology or
doctoral clinical social work. Through the years the Treatment Center
has referred hundreds of people for affordable psychoanalytic treatment.
The Treatment Center also offers comprehensive
psychological testing, including evaluations for learning disabilities
in children. All psychological testing is conducted by the psychology
externs under the supervision of psychologists experienced in both adult
and child psychological testing.
